IPTG #APL-0045 10g / #APL-0045-100g / #APL-0045-Bulk
IPTG is the usual abbreviation for isopropyl b-D-thiogalactopyranoside. It is typically produced using D-galactose derived from milk lactose.
APOLO also manufactures a grade that is of plant origin and therefore does not have the usual TSE/BSE issues. We call this grade “IPTG non-animal origin” and it is available as a free flowing crystalline powder in a range of packaging from 50 g to 20 kg drums.
IPTG is a molecular biology reagent, with multiple applications based on its ability to induce expression of genes under the control of the lac operon in some enteric bacteria, including E. coli.1 The lac operon is required for transport and metabolism of the disaccharide lactose in these bacteria, and is regulated by multiple factors including the availability of glucose and lactose.
